I primarily use acupuncture to alleviate pain and improve poor mobility associated with musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, spinal disease, and following orthopaedic surgeries. Acupuncture can be used safely in conjunction with hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and anti inflammatories such as metacam and rimadyl, sometimes allowing a reduction in dosage that an animal needs to remain comfortable. I have seen particularly pleasing results in animals receivcing a combination of acupuncture and hydrotherapy, particularly when on an under water treadmill. Family run Huntsmans Dog and Cat Hotel incorporates a state of the art hydrotherapy water treadmill. Run by Nicola Cotton, who is an extremely experienced dog breeder and groomer, work on the treadmill can help improve muscle strength, joint comfort and range of motion, and overall fitness in a carefully controlled manner.
